Title: Intova LED torch
Post by: JD on August 16, 2009, 06:51:22 PM
Hi All,
I have just purchased an 'Intova' LED backup torch from Mick at Divers Service. I had been looking for a good LED backup, and had my eye on a TUSA which Mick had a couple of himself. Like most LED's, the TUSA had a rather wide beam which put me off. He suggested the Intova narrow beam, which he got in for me to have a look at. First picture is the two torches side by side, with new batteries in each. Second pic is the Intova. I had it outside last night, and am sriously impressed with it's above water performance. Great spot beam, good punch, nice ally machined finish, double O ring and a nice clip attachment point on the bottom.
I am taking this away with me, so can give a report when I get back, but I think it will excell in our caves.
Specs: CREE LED, 2 x CR123 batteries, 5 hour burn time, 120m depth rating and about $110.

JD

PS: It will be interesting to compare with Craigs new torch, which I believe cost him 3x what the Intova costs......

Can the one I bought not assist in focusing?
 ???

Good above water performance should be of importance to you, considering the amount of diving you do. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Rick, it's me, not Harvey.
I would love to do more diving, but working Saturdays limits me a bit. Nice for you guys who have 2 days off a week, but working 6 days a week certainly limits the opportunuity to get down the mount. In saying that, 2 weeks of diving coming up! Yee HA!

Do you guys have Rat Jr backups? They are supposed to be the dogs bollocks, and I wouldn't mind comparing the two.

Not really. The idea is to have a fixed light on my housing to assist illuminating the subject particularly macro stuff. It'd probably also be useful in caves.

Yours would be too narrow and would create a hotspot likely visible in the photo. Mine comes with a couple of screw-in diffusers to spread the beam & give a more even light.

Pretty big thing to do and commitment to make just to be able to get a 2 week dive trip though.

Wonder how JD is going to top that for any future planned trips away without the missus ? Ferrari ?

Took it to 120m in indo, so the depth rating stands....

Very happy with it, so much so I will buy another so I have 2 as backups. Downside it expensive batteries, but I did buy them at Bunnings. They are probably cheaper online.
A great backup torch, or primary to carry on open water dives.

the intova we have are the 4.7 watt narrow beam version.
bloody beauty of a back up torch. Not that they are needed much considering the 18w BIG H wonder light we use as main.

I say Halleulah to that dear brother, for you have seen the light, reigning down from the battery cannister to all ya, with the power of the Halycon, creating that white big light. I say give thanks for the H !
