As I am about to retire 3 of my ally stages due to them being made of the old alloy, I have priced up cost of new tanks from Dive Imports is Perth. $239 delivered with no valve, $269 delivered with valves for 10L Catalina's. Only problem is the valves are yoke only, they do not have the removable insert, so I am ordering tanks without, and will use the valves out of my own cylinders.
Anyone interested in ordering? Very cheap price! Only come in bright yellow though.....
Anyone interested in buying 3 x used ally's? $50 each, no valves though!

If you ask them you can get the valves upgraded to din/yoke valves, think it cost around $30 bucks

How do you find the Catalina's as a stage/deco compared to Luxfer? 
I'm about to buy a 10l stage and 5l deco but been caught up in the Luxfer vs Catalina argument.
I've seen lots of reports that Luxfer sits much better and the Catalina sits like an aircraft drop tank.

Previously I've only used hire al40's and to be honest never really noticed or cared what they were..they're just there.
Big price difference between Catalina & Luxfer!

I have never used Luxfers, so have no experience with them. I am with you Steve, I just use what I use, they are there when I need them (or in my case as bailout, don't need them)

my luxfer 80 sat fine, never got my luxfer 40 wet hehehe, now taylor owns it!!!

I am however in the market for new stages so I am interested i wat RN has purchased, but I would rather breath from a cylinder than a pair of dogs bollocks!!!!  only in adelaide hey?

Luxfers sit much better than Catalinas, especially noticable when full. That is 207bar luxfers. Would not waste money on Catalinas as stage or deco bottles. Himark bouyancy characteristics very close to Luxfer 207, no noticable difference in the water.

I got a 40cf Himark from US, would have to look up price and provider as it was some time ago. From memory price was great but took ages to get here and some issues with delivery cost changing from the original quoted price.

Not hard to track down a supplier on the web then email for costs. Keep in mind these are not aust standards marked so you would be unable to fill or have tested here. Not a problem for me as it was purchased as a 100% O2 bottle for self filling, or pump from compressor.

Because AFAIK luxfer207 are no longer imported to Aust. I seem to remember something about Luxfer getting out of scuba tanks altogether.

I've used plenty of both Cat's and luxfers, own plenty of Catalinas and wish to god I could go back in time and buy luxfers instead!

In saying that however, it really depends on what pressures your using that makes the Cat's stand out as a peice of shit.
Ie. @ 150bar a 10lt Cat sits just fine. This is ok for use as say a 50% deco, but it's when you start using them for half plus 15 stuff, where your start pressure of 215bar makes it hang heavy, affecting your trim, which in turn makes you look silly in photos, which I'm sure you would all agree is simply unacceptable.
The little 5lt Cat's are however another story, those little fuckers just flat refuse to sit nice - unless of course there's like only 20 bar left in them.

PS. has anyone got any cheap Luxfer tanks for sale? :D
PPS. what do you lot know about rebreather use in tank?

XS Scuba bought the rights to luxfer tanks and have scuba tanks are once again being constructed however they only make limited models now. I beleive these to be 207bar 40s and 80s (the ones we all want) and also i think 240bar "neutral ally'(the ones we dont want and i think some fiberglass or carbon fibre wrapped 300bar one.

The Australian distributer is still Aquanaut (aqualung) as far a i know and i believe all are now availible

You need to be breather qualified and when you dive tank the guide needs to be qualified as well.

Himark 40 rides the same as Luxfer40. Tanks are almost identical in dimensions.

What if, for example I had heaps of money, was Severly over weight and had been told by a prominent overseas rb instructor that they should either give up diving or change their lifestyle and lose some weight. Oh and what if I'd been bent before? And had clearly not improved in skill level and still looked like they were diving the unit for the first time?
