After careful consideration and having used both I am happy to say that anyone using pegs is a f*****t. :D :D :D
The arguments against using cookies follow the usual pattern of people claiming that there too hard to use etc, when the real reason is laziness in not being prepared to practice a new dive skill. I think ,that with practice, manipulating cookies would not be problem at all but with the benefit of having a secure personal marker on the line.

when you have some pen experience under your belt and have done the second half of the Tank familiarisation schedule which starts multiple jumps then lets see which is better,

yes I agree a cookie is perhaps more secure BUT...no where near as efficient. in a cave with flow I would opt for cookies

Coming from the same bloke who wanted some pegs to use for the Pen course (1 of 2 who asked by the way). Luckily I had enough to go round.


Coming from the same bloke who's "secure personal marker" cookie fell off the line in Wests during the Pen course...not once but twice mind you!

I agree cookies would be a more secure marker, particularly in the case of flow. I believe this is the main reason they are used in favour over pegs, and in the US where flow is quite extreme, I would use them too.
Talking to Dave Raymond the other night about his US dive trip to Florida and Mexico, there are places where you cannot swim against the flow, you HAVE to pull yourself along the bottom. He came across a diver on a Gavin who had to kick like hell to make headway with the scooter going flat out.
I can see the benefit in them, just not here. They are slower than pegs to attach, and harder to retrieve. I honestly believe if the US guys were from here, they would not see the added benefit of using cookies. I have NEVER had a peg remove itself from the line. The arguement that it can be kicked off is bollocks, and if your buddy cant avoid the line, maybe your training is not as good as you think...... ;) :D
Interesting you chose to use pegs on the pen course, but not after. Why?

On i find it odd that you would have my stray pegs given that you are only just pen quaulified

by the time they let me back in I look forward to doing the gold line with you in Tank.

I don't believe, that with practice, cookies would take any longer than pegs to attach & retrieve.
Started using pegs on the course but went back to cookies for reasons as mentioned.
Problems with pegs may have been affected by defective equiptment supply(ie pegs were supplied by CL  :D)
