Paul,

Given you have sold a lot of your dive gear, I question just why you are asking this question at all. Are you really interested in the answer, or are you just hoping people still want to talk to you ?

This is a pretty easy question to work out yourself, if you had an understanding of what you are doing. Simply measure start pressure in the drysuit bottle, do a dive, then record pressure after. For example, I know from REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE that a 70m dive uses about 70bar from a 1L (6cf) bottle. Hence I can get about three dives out of my drysuit bottle. This is only for a very square profile dive (wreck) that doesn't have multiple ascents and drysuit venting. I have heard that a 6cf bottle is too small for 2nd Sump cocklebiddy due to the profile. I'd question why anyone is using drysuit inflation bottles there anyway.

All these things have to be tested, measured, recorded, and then used again.

And btw, there are real technical divers on this site. You're just not one of them.

Ian I have only on sold a few cylinders and a couple of regs that ultimately depreciate with time, so if they are not getting used best to seel why they are worth something...common sence really, but I guess you wouldn't do that unless someone told you too....

your some what constructive advice was what I was after, not too hard was it.  I and if people do not wish to talk to me that is fine i am weel aware of what some think of me and yes I can live with that, you should do a bit of a questionaire about what people think of you sinc etyou are so judgmental of me...interestingly a Director told me that you were not going to get the SD role simply because other/most Directors didn't like you.....secondly some technical divers in melb think you are an absolute toser...so you see tossers like us aren't alone!

by the way thanks for the answer i was after

PH

and yes I will be back diving soon, just trying to kick the motivation into gear, looking forward to a few casual dives in JB over xmas though.

Mount between Xmas and New Year, come for a dive Harvs.

I won't be able to do Tank but plenty of other Pen sites around.

Will give you a run through of the DIR diving system so you can actually see what you bag  Grin

Sorry Rick would love to but I am away. There is alot I like about the DIR system which lets face it has been refined from the basis of the hogarthian sytem. I was watching GI3 and JJ on vidoe back in 1998 and liked a lotof what they had to say even over the top, but some stuff I didnt regarding gear. I just never felt the need to full fill a void in my life with being a diving discple yu will also probably find that I take the piss out of myself as much as anything/anyone.

cheers

ps were you even diving back in 1998, who on this list was I wonder

Ok

To bring this back to the topic, I think it's important to 'learn' a cylinder capacity not by volume, but by time. So you can look at an 11L stage, and say for a 60m dive, it's a 15-20min cylinder. Same with back gas 12's or 15s. A 11L stage in Tank for me is a 30min cylinder, etc. Doing this allows me to plan dives based on gas use a lot more carefully. Additionally, on Tec2 dives, I'm not even looking at my bottom stage cylinder gauge. I know it should run out about 15-20 mins into the dive, I just breathe it until I cant suck any more out of it, then switch to BG. Noting the time when the cylinder ran out, tells me how my consumption is. On all dives, I'm confirming my consumption rate.

PH, when I made the analogy to a vehicle and it's fuel consumption, and estimating distance, a while ago, you wrote me off and said this is stupid. I find it quite a powerful dive tool. Similarly for a drysuit inflation bottle, you should be testing it so that you know that a 6cf drysuit bottle will be sufficient for your dive.

Hope this helps.

whilst I'm sure the sicence is quite interesting and for some has validity, is everyone on this list using a 6cf or something bigger

PH,

It's not really science, just using known gas use to determine how big a bottle I need. Same goes for my 5.5L 50% cylinder. I know it's a 20min cylinder for my deco from 21m. If I planned a dive requiring more than 20mins from 21-9m, I KNOW I have to use a bigger 50% cylinder, or even better, get a second 5.5L cylinder. (Better having two cylinders than one. Less risk of loss of deco gas, easier to pass on and off the boat. Caves would be different.
