so Rick....why were you asking the question in the first place?  out of general interest or you are planning of diving AIR below 30m?

General interest in where peoples limits are. Personally I don't like narcosis at all and try not to dive below 30m unless on trimix. Note I said try, sometimes logistics dictate otherwise . There have also been plenty of references to the difference between say 30m, 1m viz, 10c water and 60m, 40m viz,28c water. I have dived the Coolidge to 60m on air and even with the good conditions was not comfortable past 45. Also noticed a considerable deterioration in the functional ability of other divers. Who dives AIR?

Agree with RN here. As JD said, it's important to recognise your compromised in these situations. Even on Coolidge, with 18W HIDs, 60m on Air, I was swimming along the side of the wreck, still thinking I was swimming along the stern, though we had turned and we coming back along the side. I was thinking " Gee, the width of the wreck at the stern is really wide", then we hit the pool and I thought, oops, pretty narked here. The ability to concentrate on looking out for other members of the team was also compromised.

I think the trick here is to KNOW how narced you are. At the stern I was certainly under the influence, but I watched others who were far worse off than me. I knew I was impaired a bit, but one of these people said they were perfectly OK and not narced at all. LIARS!
Would I do it again? Probably, but I would be careful and wouldn't if I was not 100% happy with my buddy.
