Not sure, never been to Truk, hence this thread.
PH is referring to a trip we took to Indonesia a few years ago. Tropic water temp of 30 deg (well, above 80m it was!), swim up pool bar at the hotel, awesome location and even some 'moving scenery' to look at!

Last time we went for the Advanced trimix on the breathers, it cost about $3500 for 10-14 days including course costs and gas. Take out $1300 or so (unless you are CL, his gas bill was more than that!), and it is simular to Nullarbor. Still cheaper here, but you get people carting your gear, drinking beer poolside, tropical holiday for not much more.

JD
AD.... We can get PH to carry our gear around the Nullarbor with tent service Tongue Just pack a few $1.00 coins for the tips  Roll Eyes

Interested in why you would want a 'Tent service' from Harvs, I know its a bit lonely out there after a week or so, but still.....

AD's, if you own a couple of compressors, 400mts of high pressure hose, 400mts of power cable,  a couple of generators, a couple of traliers, a couple of thousand dollars worth of ropes and pullies and a lowering frame, and the camping equiptment and the cars to get it all out there, plus all of the tanks, torches and regs you need, it will cost bugga all. Id say a 2 week trip would cost you 1500 bucks!

Good luck with that, might i add, from what i have read and heard, alot of people really f#@k all of this up and make it really hard on themselves. There is a real easy way to do this trip..... most dont get it right.

Ive only been there once, but theres not much i would do differently, i think we nailed it,CL,RN,IT???

This is pretty much right Karl, but add in some $6000 scooters too. 2 each should do it.

Got it in one I reckon Karloose. Really worked very well. Maybe a longer flying-fox or two but overall would run it the same way.

LOL... talk about a hijacked thread. (And I'm partly to blame... whoops).

So... is the Chuuk trip still on, or are we all going to the Nullabour now?  Smiley

Update on the trip for those interested.....

Looks like this may be a go! I have been invited to go mid November on a trip organised by Pete Mesley. He has Inspo tanks, sorb, Helium, HP O2, and a heap of spares over there ready to go. 12 days (land based only) is about $3k. He caters to tech/rebreather divers so has all the gear including a doctor on each trip. He runs it through Leigh Bishop in the UK also.

They are asking for deposits, so it looks like its go!
As I said in a previous thread, through Pete Mesley in NZ and catering to the tech side. Going to be pretty much 2 dives per day with nice long bottom times. Keen to see if we can do some of the lesser visited sites too. Looking forward to some deeper stuff!

Anyone keen?

Have a look here:

http://www.petemesley.com/TRUKLAGOON2011.htm

Basic lowdown is 25th Nov to the 8th Dec in Truk Lagoon, cost is about US$3K for the diving side, this is plus airfares to and from. Cairns to Guam is about US$1000 plus whatever to get to and from Cairns. Helium is $0.15 a litre(!) and O2 is $0.06. Boosters are used.

JD

Interestingly, I did hear a report Micronesia was hit by the tsunami, nothing since though.
