I Buy second hand most of the time.... Things I will never buy second hand are torches.... They have either been flooded or the battery or globe is about to die from old age.
But for you Paul neither matters as you don't go diving LOL

Handy if there is a blackout however!

Depends on the product I think. Having just purchased a second hand tank I obviously do look out for a bargain, however most stuff is available online and it is not worth chasing second hand. Stuff that doesn't wear out, like backplates and tanks are a good money saver.

I've bought regs secondhand & swapped an old ipod for a 40 ally all of which was from people I know.

Agree with JD the majority of stuff on ebay isn't worth following up but gear on the CDAA classifieds etc is probably a better buy.

Need to be careful buying 2nd hand for price. I've seen a few people buy stuff 2nd hand that was on par (if not more expensive) than buying brand new from overseas.

If the price is right and I have protection (ie, ebay / paypal if someone tries to do the dirty), or I can see the item before purchase - then I have no problems buying second hand. It's a great way to get a bargain, but for the unwary it's also a good way to get ripped off.

torch works and doesnt look that old, i had a new bat made for my helios 9 for about $320 by memory , this one has half the cells......got it for the kids to use on a night dive which i want to do on the June long weekend in ewens..so for $350 was a good buy i thought

I bought a virtually brand new Explorer 9/21-watt on Ebay quite cheap. I had to replace two of the cells in the battery as it wasn't giving the full four hour burn time, but was able to do it myself with the soldering iron and some shrink wrap. I bought it as a backup to my 13.5/21-watt Salvo, which has been faultless.

I think, if you know what you are buying then it is fine to buy second hand. Anything like regs, I just buy new and cycle them every 3 years.
